[Charming]. Հմայիլ [Charmant]. S.l., [probably Constantinopl - Lot 64
[Charming]. Հմայիլ [Charmant]. S.l., [probably Constantinople, between 1717 and 1724]. 1 leaf, in good condition. Rare leaf from an Armenian Hmayil - apotropaic blessing scroll - printed probably in Constantinople between 1717 and 1724. The text is framed by a stylized botanical border, typical of Armenian prints of the period.
The folio features two woodcut, hand-colored biblical vignettes, probably attributed to Grigor Marzvanetsi, an Armenian engraver active in Constantinople in the early 18th century.
The finely executed lettering contributes to the ornamental and spiritual dimension of the document.
Preserved in a (modern) frame, this copy is a precious witness to Armenian printed sacred art.
