[Armenia]. Աճառյան, (Հրաչյա) [ADJARIAN (Hratchia)]. Հայերեն Արմատական Բառարան [Armenian etymological dictionary] . Yerevan, 1926-1932. In-4, 1488/? in sheets. Rare copy of the first edition of the Armenian Etymological Dictionary by Hratchia Adjarian (Հրաչյա Աճառեան, 1876-1953), a major Armenian linguist, philologist and lexicographer. Educated at Leipzig and the Sorbonne, he taught at the University of Yerevan and devoted his life to the study of the Armenian language and its Indo-European roots. This seminal edition, now virtually impossible to find, was published in five parts in the form of printed reproductions of manuscripts, due to the lack of technical means for printing in Armenian script. There is no known digital version of this first edition, and only three complete copies are known to exist in institutional libraries. Commentary: Copy of volume III alone, incomplete, beginning at the letter Ժ (J̌). Exceptional working document and rare witness to the history of Armenian lexicography.
