Contemporary green half-basane with corners. Extremely rare work documenting the war between Russia and Turkey, which began in April 1828 following Russian support for Greece against the Ottoman Empire. Very probably one of only 100 copies (cf. Atabey). Unique edition of this fine album illustrating the Tsar's army's campaign against the Turks in 1828-1829, each accompanied by an explanatory note. The print run of this album is said to have been limited to around 100 copies, all of them hors commerce (Atabey). The work is dedicated to the Duc de Mortemart, who was sent by the French government to observe the Russian campaign in Turkey in 1827-1828. It consists of an engraved title-frontispiece page, introduction signed and dated 1828 by Béarn, and 62 lithographed plates printed on a tinted ground, each with a facing leaf containing a lithographed explanatory text, except plate 53 which is accompanied by 2 leaves. Atabey Collection, 77. Weber, 1115. Moldavia, Wallachia, Thrace, Armenia. Worn binding, spotting and foxing, dedication leaf missing.
