LEREBOURS (Noël-Marie Paymal). Description des microscopes a - Lot 203
LEREBOURS (Noël-Marie Paymal). Description des microscopes achromatiques simplifiés par P. N. Lerebours, fabricant d'instruments d'optique, de physique, de mathématiques et de marine. Second edition. Paris, Chez N.-P. Lerebours, (1841). [11]-84-[3] pp. with 1 folding plate and [4] pp. subscription form. Paperback in-8 format, cover printed on yellow paper. Rare. Illustrated with a folding line plate by Petitcolin after Médard. With a page of "advertising" for Stanhope microscopes sold by the author himself, adorned with a black woodcut, signed by the author, depicting a stagnant drop of water under the microscope. Includes in fine, on 2 ff., a subscription for "Excursions Daguerriennes, collection de 50 planches représentant les vues et monuments les plus remarquables du globe" extolling the novelty and precision of the daguerreotype just a few years after the first images were taken around 1830. Lerebours (1807-1873) was an optician and daguerreotypist from a family specializing in optical tools. His high-quality achromatic microscopes are still sought after by collectors. Ex dono by the author in pen on the cover: offered to the Société des Sciences Naturelles de Seine et Oise. Some foxing but a good, well-preserved copy. OPTICS. BEGINNINGS OF PHOTOGRAPHY.
