LAINE (J.B. Louis). Le Coffret impérial. Industrial art publ - Lot 198
LAINE (J.B. Louis). Le Coffret impérial. Industrial art publication. Bijouterie Joaillerie. Paris, Hangar-Maugé, (1870). Album of 30 color plates, mounted on tabs, and color framed title. In-folio format (36 x 25.5 cm), contemporary bottle half-chagrin with green percaline boards stamped with cold frames, ribbed spine, gilt title and double fillet. Very rare. Reunion of 30 color plates from the decorative arts journal Le Coffret impérial, under the scientific direction of Louis J-B. Laine. The plates, sometimes numbered and titled at the bottom, are preceded by a title page lithographed in color and gold, and are chromo-lithographed in color and gold, by Hangard-Maugé after Laine's compositions. Except for a plate entitled Moniteur des architectes, lithographed by Ch. Walter after A. Normand, printed by A. Levy. Enriched with original documents from the period, perhaps by J. B. Laine: -A small piece of original gouache drawing, representing a piece of jewelry, incomplete, on tracing paper. -A print of a jewel model, in white ink with green highlights, on thick numbered tracing paper (format in-18). A few discreet freckles, but the plates are in good condition. Tired binding (corners dulled, head and tail caps damaged and missing, slight rubbing on boards and edges, title, upper guard and 1st section unbound).
