CURIOSA. POETRY. LITERARY TRICKERY. CREIXAMS. [PIA (Pascal)] - Lot 168
CURIOSA. POETRY. LITERARY TRICKERY. CREIXAMS. [PIA (Pascal)]. BAUDELAIRE (Charles). A une courtisane, unpublished poem by Charles Baudelaire published after the original manuscript and decorated with eight etchings by Greixams. Paris, J. Fort, 1925. In-8, unpaginated, [24] ff. frontispiece and 1 ff. blank, paperback, filled cover, untrimmed. A fine copy of this collection of 7 erotic poems inspired by Baudelaire, whose authorship is attributed to Pascal Pia, a specialist in the BNF's Enfer and curiosa, who himself says: "Although this hastily composed pastiche of Baudelaire is not the most successful, some exegetes of the poet of the 'Fleurs du mal' have taken it seriously. We won't have the cruelty of naming them..." (The Books of Hell, I, 5). The poem was indeed validated by Gallimard, who had it added to La Pléiade... The edition is illustrated with 8 etchings by the artist Pere Creixams: 1 frontispiece and 7 copper-engraved vignettes mid-page. Limited edition of 539 copies, this one justified "f": one of 13 copies hors commerce on Hollande Van Gelder. It is enhanced by an unadvertised free plate placed before the frontispiece. Anecdotal oxidation of the paper on the front cover.
