Contemporary red half-maroquin with corners, spine with false nerves underlined by gilt dotted lines, gilt title on spine, boards underlined by gilt fillets. Suite of 24 plates of horses drawn from life by Victor Adam and lithographed in black. One of the least common, absent from Mennessier de la Lance (I, 6). Plate 15 is superbly colored and enhanced with gum arabic at the time. Includes French breeds (Normand, Limousin, Breton, Tarbes, Auvergne, Francomtois), English breeds (Thoroughbred, Anglo-Norman, Irish), Mediterranean breeds (Spanish, Arabian, Andalusian, Moroccan), Central and Eastern European breeds (Hanoverian, Austrian, Ukrainian, Meklenburger, Siberian), as well as crossbred types (Arabian-English). Victor Adam (1801-1866), French painter and lithographer, distinguished himself by his imagination and technical mastery. Following his success at the Salon, he turned to lithography in 1824, producing the fine equestrian scenes and horse figures that made his reputation in this field, and whose style is reminiscent of the expressiveness of his contemporary Chassériau. Binding a little rubbed, a few light brown spots. ROMANTIC LITHOGRAPHS.
