SOCIÉTÉ DES GENS DE LETTRES. MODERN LITERATURE. MAURICE ROLL - Lot 46
SOCIÉTÉ DES GENS DE LETTRES. MODERN LITERATURE. MAURICE ROLLINAT. ARTS INCOHÉRENTS. Lot of 3 P.A. from Jules LEVY (1857-1935) French publisher and writer, founder of the Arts Incohérents movement - a spiritual rejoinder to the demonstrations of the decadent painters - and then Secretary General of the Syndicat professionnel des Gens de Lettres. Connected with the Montmartrois and the Hydropathes. -2 L.A.S. addressed to Emile DRAIN (1890-1966) "Le Napoléon de l'écran" who played the role of the Emperor for Sacha Guitry... a great theatrical performer who was also an author and poet. 2 pp., envelopes with addresses and stamps, 1926 and 1927. One on the letterhead of the Syndicat des Gens de Lettres, a lovely, rather literary letter of thanks. Villers S/ Marne, 1927. The other is addressed to Drain and Levy's friendship with the work and person of Maurice Rollinat, the famous poet, musician and performer who died in 1903. An "association" was created to pay tribute to him, which still exists today. Levy thanks Drain and his wife for taking part in the unveiling of the poet's plaque in Chateauroux. He mentions the organization and Drain's wife, and would like Drain to drop by for a chat... -a CDV with Jules LEVY's address as Syndicat secretary. Anecdotal stains or fold defects.
