TAPUSCRIT. GUITRY (Sacha). Lucien Guitry by Sacha Guitry (s. - Lot 37
TAPUSCRIT. GUITRY (Sacha). Lucien Guitry by Sacha Guitry (s.l.n.d.). Set consisting of a typed part rich in corrections and annotations and a handwritten part (s.l.n.d.). 5 pp (typed) and 5 pp. (handwritten). Format in-4 (21 x 27 cm). Fragment of a manuscript tracing the life and career of Lucien Guitry, the great actor and father of Sacha Guitry. The first five pages of this set are typed, with numerous corrections, additions and erasures. These pages evoke LucienGuitry's return to France in 1885 and the women who accompanied him on stage "[...] Sarah Bernhardt, Réjane, Jeanne Granier, Marthe Brandès, Simone. [ With these five actresses, he created thirty plays", he continues, describing the plays Lucien performed with varying degrees of success "[...] unfortunately, the plays she performed didn't amuse him very much. [...] his nightmare! - all that lyricism, sometimes a bit cheap. [...] ". The handwritten section begins on page 49 and ends on page 52 (pages written in pencil and ink). On page 49, Sacha Guitry writes "Nous sommes restés brouillés pendant 13 ans [...]" (after October 1889), and continues with what appears to be a chapter on "Mon père et moi:" describing their reunion and many other anecdotes. Our manuscript concludes with a touching anecdote: "When you came on stage last night, I saw you again at the age of 5... in my arms... in Russia!" We both had the same thought. From that day until the last day of his life, we never went 24 hours without seeing or writing to each other! Sacha Guitry, French playwright, actor, director and screenwriter (1885-1957). A prolific playwright, he wrote one hundred and twenty-four plays, many of which were great successes. He also directed thirty-six films (including seventeen adaptations of his plays), starring in almost all of them, including the famous Roman d'un tricheur and Si Versailles m'était conté.
