The sale of our rags will keep us in Paris until May. If by chance you should still come, Monsieur, I would like to bid you a final farewell. Zélie and all her family are here; I haven't seen her yet because I don't leave my rue d'Enfer. I won't talk to you about politics; it's going its own way. Be happy, dear Monsieur, in the midst of your woods; think of me a few times and receive my old and tender regards from your charming daughter [...]". Disillusioned with the future of the Monarchy, Chateaubriand retired from business. After the 1830 Revolution, he left the Chamber of Peers. The year 1831 saw the publication of his works De la Restauration et de la Monarchie élective and Etudes Historiques (4 vol. in-8).The work referred to in this letter could be this one.
