This work by Armenian historian and archaeologist Alexandre Yeritzyants (1841-1902) explores the role of the Catholicossate of All Armenians, based in Etchmiadzin. This exercised spiritual authority over all the faithful of the Armenian Apostolic Church, including those in the Caucasus. The author analyzes the political, religious and social dynamics of the Armenian community, as well as the evolution of Catholicosal authority in the context of the Russian and Ottoman empires.
