Սրուանձտեանց, Գարեգին [SRVANTSDIANTS (Karekin)]. Թորոս Աղբար. Հայաստանի ճամբորդ: [Toros Aghbar. The Traveler in Armenia in 2 vols]. Constantinople, Imprimerie M. Tntesian, Imprimerie Aramian, 1879-1885. 2 vols. in-8, XIV-340 p. + 488 p., period fawn half-basin, spine with 4 nerves, havana title-piece, date and initials gilt at tail, cover preserved (rubbing to spine, spines, headpieces and corners, leaves slightly browned). Le Voyageur en Arménie is a major work by Garegin Srvandztiants (1840-1892), Armenian clergyman, ethnographer, philologist and writer. Written under the pseudonym "Toros Aghbar", the book was inspired by the author's travels in the Armenian provinces of the Ottoman Empire at the end of the XIXᵉ century. Through meticulous descriptions of churches, monasteries, schools, manuscripts and popular traditions, Srvandztiants paints a vivid picture of Armenian life and plays an active part in safeguarding its cultural heritage. Provenance: Frédéric Macler (1869-1938) (label and wet stamp).
