Վանանդեցի Նուրիջանեան (Ղուկաս) [NOUURIJANIAN Vanandetsi (Ghu - Lot 214
Վանանդեցի Նուրիջանեան (Ղուկաս) [NOUURIJANIAN Vanandetsi (Ghukas)]. Պատկերասէր պատկերատեաց [L'Iconolâtre l'Iconoclaste]. Amsterdam, printed by Thomas Vanandetsi, 1716. In-8, 432 p. (of 448) p., contemporary Armenian binding in brown chagrin, spine with 6 nerves, cold fillet edging the boards, edges chased and gilt with the symbolic letters "I.H.S." of the Society of Jesus on the gutter (cracks to the spine and spinebands, a small part of the lower headband torn off, small leather chips to the cuts and corners, endpapers partly detached, p. 161-177 lacking, mottling to the side margin).
"L'Iconolâtre et l'Iconoclaste" the philosophical work of Ghukas Vanandetsi, also known as Ghukas Nurijanyan (born around the early 1650s, date of death unknown), is the work of a versatile Armenian intellectual: chronicler, translator, philosopher, publisher, man of culture and Armenian scribe active during the second half of the 17th century and the first quarter of the 18th century. Devoted to the theological aspects of iconoclasm, this book has shortcomings common to all available copies, including missing pages (161-177) and an ending that ends with an unfinished keyword.
It is illustrated with two full-page woodcuts by Christoffel van Sichem the Younger. The text is beautifully framed and decorated with numerous initials.
