[Manuscript]. Ներսէս Շնորհալի [Nerses Shnorhali]. Թուղթ ընդհանրական [Encyclical Letter] and Թուղթ Գրիգոր Կաթողիկոսի առ Հաղպատի Վարդապետաց [Letter from Catholicos Gregory to the Doctors of Haghpat]. [ca. 19th c.]. In-4 (ca. 20 x 15 cm.), 305 p., full contemporary speckled tan basane, 4-nerved spine, gilt roulette bordering the boxes and boards, gilt center finial, red speckled edges (slight rubbing and epidermal wear to boards and spine, small leather chips, wormholes to lower board, head cap. torn off, spine split q. cm. worn edges, dull corners, slight foxing). This manuscript consists of two distinct parts, both of great importance for the spiritual and ecclesiastical history of medieval Armenia. The first part contains the "Թուղթ ընդհանրական" (Encyclical Letter) of Ներսէս Շնորհալի (Nersès Shnorhali), catholicos of the XIIᵉ century, a major figure in Armenian theology and literature. This circular letter, addressed to all the clergy and faithful, deals with faith, the unity of the Church and Christian life, in a tone that is both doctrinal and pastoral. The second part contains the "Թուղթ Գրիգոր Կաթողիկոսի առ Հաղպատի Վարդապետաց" (Letter from Catholicos Gregory to the Doctors of Haghpat), most probably written by Gregory II Vkayaser. This letter is addressed to the vardapets of the famous Haghpat monastery and addresses doctrinal or disciplinary issues, testifying to the active dialogue between the Catholicosal see and the monastic centers of learning.
