Մեսրոպ Երեց [MESROP ERETS]. Պատմութիւն մնացորդաց Հայոց եւ Վրաց [History of Armenian and Georgian Remains]. Madras, Hakob Shahamiryan, 1775. In-8, 148 p., later half-brown basane, smooth spine, speckled edges (spines, headpieces, and boards rubbed, spines and corners worn, worm work). Second edition of a work dedicated to the life of Saint Nerses the Great and the Mamikonian royal family, evoking their struggle alongside the Georgians against the Persians. Originally published in Constantinople in 1737, this text is reprinted here in Madras by the printing house founded by Hakob Shahamirian, a merchant and prominent figure in the Armenian community in India. The work is based on a manuscript attributed to Mesrop Erets, also known as Mesrop the Elder of Vayotsdzor, an Armenian historian of the 10th-12th centuries. The text is decorated with fine, elegant framing, lettering and decorative vignettes at the head and in the margins of certain pages.
