Լուդովիկոս Քօմթեանց [LUDOVIKOS KOMTEANTS]. Թուղթք ԶՉինաց [Letters from China]. Trieste, Imprimerie Pere Mkhitaritants, 1783. In-12, 382 p. including 2 plates, lower board in period racine basane, red edges (spine and upper board missing, 1st quire deéelié, wetness). A rare and interesting collection of letters written during missionary Ludovikos Komteants' trip to China, as well as accounts he compiled of the region at a time when it was still little-known in the Armenian world. These letters, rich in cultural, religious and geographical observations, aim to inform Armenian readers about Chinese life and customs, in a spirit that is at once erudite, curious and missionary. This is an exceptional testimony to the Armenian view of the Far East in the XVIIIᵉ century.
