[Manuscript]. Գրիգոր Նարեկացի [GRÉGOIRE DE NAREK]. Գիրք աղօթից [Book of Prayers]. Kamarakap (Western Armenia), 1859. In-12, (approx. 12.5 x 9 cm.), 143 unnumbered f. of which 15 are blank, contemporary binding, red leather spine and board surrounds, black cloth-covered boards (missing), gilt edges (upper bit split q. cm., lower board detached, marginal soiling, quires out of order). Handsome, neat manuscript of Gregory of Narek's Prayer Book, copied by Բարդօղիմէս (Bardoghimes) in the village of Կամարակապ (Kamarakap), located in western Armenia, in the Akn sandjak, vilayet of Kharberd. This precious manuscript contains the famous "Book of Prayers" (Գիրք Աղօթից) by Gregory of Narek (Gregory of Narekatsi, 951-1003), one of the mystical and poetic masterpieces of Armenian spiritual literature. The text was carefully copied by the scribe Bardoghimes, probably a local cleric or scholar, in the village of Kamarakap, a region with a strong manuscript tradition. The manuscript opens with a colored miniature frontispiece and consists of 128 pages of text written in black and red ink, embellished with illustrated lettering and framed in gold.
