DUFF (William). Histoire de Rhedy, hermite du Mont Ararat, c - Lot 94
DUFF (William). Histoire de Rhedy, hermite du Mont Ararat, conte oriental, translated from the anglois. London et Versailles, Le Fevre, 1777. 2 parts in 1 vol. in-12, [2] f., 163 p. ; [2] f., 86 p., full contemporary fawn calf, 4 ribbed spine, fawn title-piece, ornate caissons, gilt roulette at the edges, edges speckled with red (headbands and edges a little worn, corners dull). French translation of this tale based on the original English text by William Duff (1732-1815). This fictional tale follows the life of Rhedy, a hermit on Mount Ararat, and explores oriental themes, illustrating the 18th-century European attraction to exotic philosophies and stories. Provenance: William Danby [18th century] (label on back cover).
