[Manuscript]. Չամուռճյան Հովհաննես Պրուսացի [Chamurjian Hovhannes de Brousse]. [Two medical works translated into Armenian], 1842. In-4 (ca. 20 x 15 cm.), [4] f. (of which 3 bl.), 155 p., [2] f. bl. ; 207 p., [2] f. bl., period gray percaline, smooth spine, gilt title, (wear defects, wetness on boards, endpapers and qq leaves, split between the two manuscripts, marginal stains and soiling). Hovhannes Chamurjian de Brousse (Հովհաննես Չամուռճյան Պրուսացի) was an Armenian scholar, teacher and translator of the XIXᵉ century. In 1842, he produced a handwritten translation of two medical works, which has remained unpublished. This translation is a precious testimony to the transmission of Western or Eastern medical knowledge in Ottoman Armenian circles, at a time when efforts were being made to train an educated Armenian medical elite. It also reflects the involvement of Armenian intellectuals from provinces such as Brousse in the dissemination of scientific knowledge, through copying, adapting and teaching by hand, outside the formal publishing circuit.
