[Holy Land]. [FRIES (Laurent)]. Tabula Terre Sanctae. [Lyon, - Lot 219
[Holy Land]. [FRIES (Laurent)]. Tabula Terre Sanctae. [Lyon, Trechsel, 1535]. A woodcut map, approx. 24 x 41.5 cm. frame included, on a sheet approx. 41 x 57 cm. colored (small stains in margins, qq. tiny holes along the central fold). Remarkable depiction of the Holy Land, oriented north to left. The title appears in a phylactery above, outside the frame. On the verso is a page of Latin text "Tab. Ter. Sanctae" framed by 4 large woodcuts. Based on Waldseemuller's 1513 depiction of the Holy Land, this is one of the most important cartographic works ever produced. Born in Alsace around 1490, Laurent Fries worked as a map editor with Gruninger from 1520 to 1525.
