[Russia]. [Manuscript]. Октоих [Octoèque]. 19th century. Lar - Lot 126
[Russia]. [Manuscript]. Октоих [Octoèque]. 19th century. Large in-8 (25.5 x 17 cm. excluding binding), [86] f., Russian binding, full reddish-brown basane on cold-decorated wooden boards, smooth spine decorated with fleurons and fillets, top board decorated with a traditional ornament called a basmy border, fillet and fleurons, 5 bolts on the bottom board, "Chudovskaya" type decoration, formed by crossed diagonals dividing the boards into four complete lozenges and eight half-lozenges, framed in basmy roulette, clasps, (flaws including almost detached top board, rubbing and epid, spine worn; foxing, soiling (sustained fingerprints of use) in margins, stains on qq. pages, quires out of order).
Sung octoecque (Октоих певческий / Осьмогласник), manuscript in neumatic notation (крюковая нотация). This manuscript copy, with its style of ornamentation, is reminiscent of the Gouslitskian songbooks, renowned for their rich decoration and careful handwriting.
The binding is much earlier than the manuscript, and could be a reuse; it should be noted, however, that this type of binding endured in Russia for several centuries, particularly on liturgical books.
