[Austria - Ukraine]. FER (Nicolas de). The famous bridge and fortress of Esseck. [Avec] Plan [Et] Profil de la forteresse de Mongast. A Paris, chez N. de Fer, 1687. 2 views and 1 plan on 1 sheet measuring (42.2 x 52.7 cm.), copper engraving (restored cracks). Set of three views on the same sheet showing 17th-century fortresses in the Hungarian Empire, in present-day Austria and Ukraine. The first view is of the famous bridge over the Ferlacher Stausee and the Drava River, showing the "Esseck Fortress" surrounded by troops. Several ships can be seen in the Drava River. In the background, the view shows fields and a mountain range. The other two engravings offer a bird's-eye view and profile of Mukacheve Castle, an important fortress of the Hungarian Empire. This fortress is surrounded by a moat and is often referred to as Palanok Castle. Today, it is located on Ukrainian land.
