Neat manuscript copy of this narrative by Patrizio de' Rossi, one of the historical works dedicated to the tragic events of the wars in Italy in the 16th century, which culminated in the destruction and sacking of Rome in 1527 by the lansquenets of Emperor Charles V. This manuscript, copied in the 17th century, shows the extent to which the destruction of Rome in the early 16th century left its mark on the minds of Italians, who long after the event wished to preserve its memory. The text was not published at the time, and the first edition did not appear until 1837. Our manuscript is in two parts, whereas the edition is in four. It would be useful to compare this copy with the published version in order to establish any variants. The text is written in ink, recto and verso, on homogeneous laid paper, watermarked with a bird figure on 3 mounts. The volume comprises 106 leaves: [3] f. (title, 2 blank f.), [24] f. (first part, last f.blank), f. [25-103] (second part). The first part consists of 47 paragraphs called "chapters"; at the end is the title of chapter 48, with no text. The second part comprises 127 chapters, with the word "Fine" at the end of the last one. Modern handwritten bookplate on front cover.
