[Germany]. BRAUN (Georg). Civitas Francofordiana ad Moe[num]. [Cologne, 1575]. 1 engraved copperplate view (33.5 x 48 cm. on 38 x 52 cm. sheet), hand-colored (cracks with small losses at center fold). Bird's-eye view of the city of Frankfurt am Main. This detailed depiction shows the city's fortifications, streets, buildings and surrounding landscape. The Main River flows through the city, with bridges and boats visible on the water. The engraving features a decorative cartouche at the top with the city's Latin name, and a descriptive text at bottom right. In the foreground, a group of figures in period costume observe the city, a typical feature of the urban views in Civitates Orbis Terrarum, the famous city atlas published by Georg Braun and Frans Hogenberg in the 16th and 17th centuries. This copy presents the plan in its second state, published in the 1575 Latin edition of this atlas.
