Third Dutch edition of the Théâtre de Savoie (1724-1725), a major work of cartography and iconography of the towns of Piedmont and Savoy, including maps, plans, topographical views and monuments. Conceived under Charles-Emmanuel II of Savoy and completed under Marie-Jeanne de Savoie-Nemours, the work was originally published in 1682 by the Blaeu family, then republished in 1693 and 1697 before this edition by Rutgert Christoffel Alberts. It divides the original volumes into four parts, illustrated by frontispieces engraved by Abraham Blooteling and Gérard Valck, after Gérard de Lairesse.
Elegantly bound and printed on large paper, this copy illustrates the exceptional skills of Dutch engravers of the period and the geographical advances of the early 18th century.
It comprises: 4 engraved titles, 4 typographical titles in red and black, 4 engraved portraits, one of which is double-page, engraved plate of coats of arms, double-page genealogical table, 136 engraved maps, plans, bird's-eye views or plates, as well as the additional single-page plate of the monument to Charles Emmanuel II on the Voie Sarde. The work consists of two parts, each divided into two volumes: the first part is devoted to Piedmont and is illustrated with 66 plates. The second part is devoted to Savoy, with 70 plates.
