BELL (Archie). The Spell of China. New York, The Page Company, 1917. In-8, XIV-404 pp, bibliography, index, 54 off-text photographic plates, publisher's decorated percaline (map lacking). First edition illustrated with 54 plates of photographic reproductions. Journey to China by American journalist, drama and music critic Archie Bell (1877-1943), who visited Hong Kong, Canton, Macau and then Shanghai. He then headed west along the Yangtze, visiting Nanjing, Kiukiang (Jiujiang) and Hankow, where he boarded a train for Peking. He completed his journey in Tsingtao and Japanese-occupied Korea.
