Carte nouvelle des costes de la Bretagne depuis St. Malo jusques à l'emboucheure de la rivière de Loire A Amsterdam, chez Pierre Mortier, 1693. 1 copper-engraved map on two attached sheets, (approx. 63 x 95 cm.), hand-colored (minor restorations, short side margins). Important marine map of the coast of Brittany engraved on copper by Romain de Hooge (1645-1708) and published in his maritime atlas: Le Neptune françois, ou, Atlas nouveau des cartes marines, by Pierre Mortier in Amsterdam. This map is particularly noteworthy for its large Baroque-style decorative cartouche. It is decorated with allegorical figures and coats of arms, and illustrated with four vignettes depicting views of Saint-Malo, Brest, Concarneau, and Port-Louis (or Blavet), reflecting the strategic and maritime importance of these ports. The ocean is embellished with numerous ships and two wind roses.
