[France (south)]. BOUGUEREAU (Maurice), ed. Le Daulphine. La - Lot 68
[France (south)]. BOUGUEREAU (Maurice), ed. Le Daulphine. Languedoc. Gascoigne. Provence and Xaintonge. Caesaroduni Turonum, aedibus M. Bouguerealdi, 1593 [i.e. 1619]. Copper-engraved map, 34.5 x 44.8 cm, on sheet 41 x 55.5 cm, partly colored (small restoration in one margin).
A fine representation of the southern part of France, covering part of Burgundy to the north. First published in 1593 by the publisher Bouguereau in Tours, it is here in a new edition given in 1619 in Paris by Jean Leclerc, who had bought Bouguereau's copperplates.
Highly decorative, it features two cartouches, one for the title, the other for the figured scale. The frame, cartouches and seas, as well as Lake Geneva and the mountain ranges, coasts and rivers, are colored, and the cities are marked in red.
(Pastoureau, Leclerc A [38]; Bouguereau [8] for the original copper).
