Henri LEBASQUE (1865-1937) [FRANCE] Woman with hat and red striped dress Oil on canvas. Signed lower right. 46 x 38.5 cm As was Lebasque's custom, the model does not look at the painter. Instead, the young woman is seen from three-quarters, her head slightly tilted, her attitude pensive and her eyelids lowered. Lebasque is the poet of grace and of a world enchanted by the feminine element (his models will tirelessly be his wife and daughters). This gentle atmosphere is matched by the supple sinuosity of the lines, those of the brim of the large hat and those of the stripes on the dress. These melodic lines find their color equivalents in vermilion reds and spring greens, punctuated by bluish shadows.
