Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912) Set of four sliding cases, one in black lacquer, the upper half decorated with grasses in gold hiramaki-e, the lower half encased in a wickerwork net, signed; the other three in tortoiseshell with various decorations in gold lacquer, of birds among trees and flowers. (Small lacquer gaps on the first; accidents on the other three). Dim. from 13.2 x 7 cm to 11.2 x 6.5 cm.
