Large in-4, 32 pp. + [1] f., pl., fawn half-basin, smooth spine decorated with gilt fillets and small irons, gilt author and title (head cap torn off, boards faded, light stains on title, light russeting on plates, split at fold of map). Atlas [only] of the first French edition of this work. The text contains a statistical overview of China drawn from original documents, followed by a table of the route from Kiakhta to Peking and another for the return journey. The atlas itself consists of 11 plates featuring a map, plans and lithographed illustrations, including: a map entitled "Carte de la route de Kiakhta à Pékin à travers la Mongolie 1820-1821"; a plan of the city of Pékin; and images illustrating the life, costumes and people of the region.
