SCITIVAUX (Roger de). Voyage en Orient Paris, Vve A. Morel, 1873. In-folio, XI-121 p., [2] f., 25 plates, paperback (spine a little streaked, heavy foxing to text, more moderate on plates).
First edition.
Scitivaux's Voyage en Orient is a captivating epistolary report illustrated with 25 beautiful lithographs by Jules Laurens after drawings by the author. A well-known artist at the Paris Salons, Roger de Scitivaux was invited by the Count of Paris to take part in a trip to Egypt and Syria in 1859. The story begins in the port of Trieste aboard the Neptune on November 28 of that year and ends on July 30, 1860, the date of his return to Remicourt near Nancy. It was published by his friend Gaston de Ludre, preceded by a biographical note on Scitivaux, who had died three years earlier, written by Ludre.
