[Algeria]. [Drawing]. REYNIER (Gustave). Flâneries d'un arti - Lot 110
[Algeria]. [Drawing]. REYNIER (Gustave). Flâneries d'un artiste. Algerian Impressions. S.l., late 1930s-early 1940s. In-4 (32.5x23 cm), leaves bound in a folder-sleeve, soft red oriental leather cover with gilt decoration (split at head of spine). Beautiful unpublished work, consisting of 132 typewritten pages, accompanied by original illustrations. The author is orientalist painter Gustave Reynier (1885-1955), who writes in his foreword: "These impressions, which I have taken pleasure in capturing in drawing and pen, are taken from my road sketches during my travels... they are nothing more than visions furtively carried away... Isn't it a beautiful thing to be able to stop for a moment the flight of hours, to record the beautiful moments of our lives?". The text contains handwritten corrections. The illustrations include 30 original hors-texte paintings (including 19 gouaches) mounted on framed blue paper, 2 original watercolors (included in the pagination) and 81 drawings in the text, most in sanguine, some in ink or enhanced with watercolor. The title is handwritten. The locations depicted in the large compositions are identified on each drawing: 9 in Algiers, 8 in Blida and 13 in Tipasa, Djemila and Timgad. The illustrations in the text comprise 83 drawings of various formats, in sanguine, pencil or ink, some with watercolor highlights: 24 on Algiers, 16 on Blida and 43 on Tipasa, Djemilai and Timgad.
