[COOK (James)]. Maps and figures from Cook's third voyage. P., Hôtel de Thou, 1785. In-4, [2] f. (false title and title), 87 copper-engraved plates, most of them folding or double-page, including 20 maps and plans, 30 views, 18 portraits of natives, 16 scenes of native culture and daily life, 3 natural history illustrations. This volume is accompanied by two others, all in homogeneous bindings, i.e. 3 vol. in-4, blue half-basin marbled with 20th c. corners, spine with 4 nerves, gilt title and tomaison, 1 gilt iron with anchor, gilt fillet on covers (spine slightly faded, rubbing on headpieces, corners, nerves and jaws; a few interior defects not serious). The other two volumes contain 53 and 67 copper-engraved maps and views from the 18th c., also relating to Cook's voyages, some from the important series entitled Histoire générale des Voyages. The total number of engraved plates is 207 (list on request).
