[United Kingdom]. CALVERT (Frederick), ROBERTS (Percy). The Isle of Wight illustrated, in a series of coloured views, engraved in aqua-tint by Mr. Percy Roberts London, G. H. Davidson, 1846. In-4, [3] f., 63 p., fr., pl. in beige publisher's pink-striped boards, smooth ornate spine, gilt title, double gilt fillet framing upper board, with title in center in gilt medallion, gilt medallion on lower board, gilt edges (tear at head of spine, corners and headpieces rubbed, light stains on lower board; text paper a little yellowed, light wetness at corner of frontispiece, and in margins of some plates). First edition and first print run - distinguished in particular by the plate captioned "Bunbridge Ferry", for "Bembridge Ferry" - of this fine album dedicated to the Isle of Wight. The illustration includes a lithographed frontispiece in bistre by E. Walker, an engraved and colored map, and 20 beautiful plates faithfully engraved in aquatint by Percy Roberts and finely hand-colored in the period, after drawings and paintings by the landscape and marine painter Frederick Calvert (c.1785-c.1845).
