Bloud-type equatorial diptych sundial in ivory engraved with - Lot 1

Bloud-type equatorial diptych sundial in ivory engraved with leafy spandrels. The upper face of the cover features an equatorial dial graduated from 1 to 12 twice and a polar dial with two graduated scales 9-12-3 joined by vertical lines. A small central hole holds the needle gnomon (missing here). The upper inner side features a tin lunar volvelle graduated from 1 to 30 ? surrounded by a dial graduated from 1 to 12 twice. On the right-hand side, a scale graduated from 0 to 80. The plate forming a horizontal wire-axis dial surrounds a compass with a printed paper bottom (wear and simulated needle design) surrounded by an engraved hour scale from 1 to 12. Dieppe, late 17th century. Dimensions: 5 x 4.2 x 1cm. (Small crack, missing compass needle and glass).
