The design of this rug is reminiscent of compositions by Joan Miro or Max Ernst, notably during their joint work for Diaghilev's Ballets Russes, for which they produced a number of cartoons, costumes, curtains and decorative objects, some of which are now part of Serge Lifar's collection.
