French Art Deco work, 1930s - Lot 79
French Art Deco work, 1930s Brooch in 750 thousandths white gold and 950 thousandths platinum, centered on a rectangular jade jadeite plaque engraved and openworked with a butterfly flying among flowers and foliage, held in a claw-set setting accented with rose-cut diamonds, shouldered by tiers highlighted with 8/8-cut diamonds, as well as black and red lacquer. Pin in 750 thousandths white gold. Diamond hallmark of Atelier René MIALET. Dimensions: 7.1x3.1cm. P. Gross weight: 29.2g. (Two roses missing, minor damage to lacquer). Our brooch is a characteristic example of the taste for the Orient, a must in the Art Deco period, and the colorful combinations it inspired. Initiated by the Maison Cartier, these combinations - the black of onyx, the green of jade and the red of coral - were taken up by other jewelry houses in the years 1925-1935. Bibliography: RUDOE J., Cartier 1900-1939, Paris, Somogy, 1997, see chapter "Cartier et les combinaisons de couleurs", pp. 208 ff.
