Original edition of this first French translation by Alphonse Royer. Alarcon was a contemporary of Cervantes, with whom he collaborated on his arrival in Spain around 1598 (he was born in Mexico in 1581; died in Madrid in 1639). It was a satirical story entitled: "Lettre à Don Diego Astudillo Carrillo, où l'on rend compte de la fête de San Juan d'Alfarache, le jour de San Laureano". "An Indian, he had come to compete for the theatrical palms with the nascent genius of the great Lope de Vega". Despite not having the talent, and despised by his contemporaries (Tirso de Molina, Gongora, Guevara, etc.), he wrote some thirty plays, including "La verdad sospechosa", "Mudarse por mejorarse", "Ganar Amigos" and "El tejedor de Segovia". Cervantes was also trying to rival Lope de Vega in theatrical terms. Palau, 281569. (Also included). VEGA CARPIO (Felix Lope de). DRAMATIC WORKS ; Paris, Didier et Cie, 1869-1870.
