QUEVEDO DE VILLEGAS (Francisco Gomez de). L'AVENTURIER BUSCO - Lot 231

QUEVEDO DE VILLEGAS (Francisco Gomez de). L'AVENTURIER BUSCON, Histoire Facétieuse. A Paris, Clément Malassis, 1668. One volume in-12 (276 pp) full contemporary vellum, pages slightly foxed. Rare Parisian edition of this picaresque novel first published in Barcelona in 1627. This edition was translated from Spanish by M. de La Geneste. Influenced by "Lazarillo de Tormes", by the general outline (very convoluted) and by the simplification of episodes, "Buscon" leaves the story hanging and promises a second part that was never written. The novelistic technique is very primitive, with no moral digressions. The satire denounces a society that has reached the extremes of moral decadence. Palau, 243952. [Don Pablo de Ségovie, paperback, in-12, published by "l'enseigne du Pot cassé" in 1929 in the Scripta Manent collection. Translation by Rétif de la Bretonne, illustrated by Henry Chapront.
