BRONZE OF DON QUIXOTE ON HORSEBACK. - Lot 198
BRONZE OF DON QUIXOTE ON HORSEBACK.
Spain, no publisher, [ca. 1900].
Beautiful gilded bronze work measuring 30 cm x 30 cm plus the 40 cm spear. It is mounted on an onyx base with small brass feet. The spurs and leash are removable. Some rubbing in places, but fine condition.
Very realistic depiction of the sad-faced knight. Rossinante is gaunt, bordering on caricature.
A very rare piece for which we have not found a reference. It must be by a Spanish artist from the early 20th century.
