Eighteenth-century broken-type EVENTAIL. In ivory, with a painted scene representing one of the adventures of Don Quixote de la Mancha. On the reverse, a painted lakescape. Height: 21.5 cm, width: 38 cm. Fair condition (19th-century ribbon), paint and varnish slightly chipped in places. Housed in a 19th-century case. The episode painted here is based on a composition by Charles Antoine Coypel: "Sancho leaving for the island of Barataria". Very rare.
