END OF A WORLD KLEMM (Walter). ZU DON QIXOTE [Berlin], s. e. , [1924]. Title and twelve woodcut plates (12 Holzschnitte) in a folio holder measuring 44 x 33 cm. The woodcuts vary in size, the largest measuring 20 x 29 cm; they are all signed in pencil by the artist. An astonishing and particularly rare suite of illustrations that, like the text, give a profound sense of the "End of a World", accentuated by the chiaroscuro effect. Walter Klemm (1883-1957) belonged to the German school and showed a predilection for engraving. Not cited by Palau. A little-known but crucial work by the German master, whose print run must be less than 200 copies. His work was destroyed by the Nazis.
