ORTUNES DE CALAHORRA (after). HISTOIRE DU CHEVALIER DU SOLEI - Lot 125

ORTUNES DE CALAHORRA (after). HISTOIRE DU CHEVALIER DU SOLEIL excerpt from the ancient novel of the same name taken from the Spanish. Amsterdam, Pierre Mortier, 1769. Large volume in-12, full brown calf, spine ribbed and decorated with gilt fillets and fleurons (period binding). A good copy despite the slightly warped boards. Four parts in one volume; 174 pp / 168 pp / 186 pp. / 155 pp. Two tears without missing, pp. 186 of the third part. Rare reprint of a famous novel of chivalry that Cervantes omitted from Don Quixote's library. It is based on Ortuñes de Calahorra's "Espejo de Principes et cavalleros". This must be the French adaptation by J. B. de Torenet de Boismêlé, published as early as 1740 and 1750. It is not mentioned by Palau or Brunet.
