IN DON QUIXOTE'S LIBRARY - Lot 121
IN DON QUIXOTE'S LIBRARY BOYARDO (Matheo Maria). NEW TRANSLATION BY ROLAND L'AMOUREUX. Paris, Pierre Ribou, 1717. Two volumes in two volumes in-12, full marbled brown calf, spine ribbed and decorated, red edges (Binding of the period). some foxing and soiling in the text. Lateral margins of engravings a little short. First edition of Lesage's translation. According to Brunet (I, 1052), this is only an abridgement of the Italian poem, and the translator has made many changes. Sixteen unsigned copper-engraved illustrations. They are very curious. Orlando inamorato is in Quixada's library. In chapter VI of the first part, the barber takes the Miroir de Chevalerie (Espejo de Caballerias, 1586), partly adapted from Orlando, and declares it to be Boiardo's invention. Edition not reported by Palau; nor by Brunet.
