THE MANUSCRIPT OF AN ITALIAN TRANSLATION - Lot 94
THE MANUSCRIPT OF AN ITALIAN TRANSLATION LESAGE. Le Bachelier de Salamanque. Italian translation by Achille Gargani (first half of the 19th century). Small folio of 305 leaves in-4°, half period green chagrin. The handwriting is very legible. Palau cites only a Milan edition, 1837, in two in-12 volumes by Tuffi, without the name of the translator. Is this the one? Palau (136552) tells us that Antonio de Solis wrote a short story with the same title, unpublished because of allusions to people in power. This manuscript was in the library of the ambassador and bibliophile Hugo. His friend Lesage saw it and drew inspiration from it.
