IN LINE WITH GALATEA VEGA CARPIO (Felix Lope de). LES DELICES DE LA VIE PASTORALE DE L'ARCADIE. Lyon, Pierre Rigaud, 1624. One volume in-8 (frontispiece, 7 ff, 450 pp, 2 ff. ), 19th-century vellum paper boards, untrimmed copy, spines cracked. The first four leaves are from another copy. A signature has been cut out of the white part of the title. Crowned HD stamp in red ink on the title. Probably the third edition of this pastoral novel in the tradition of Sannazar's La Galatée and Arcadie. In the Bérès catalog of June 1977, this edition is erroneously presented as the first edition of the only French translation by Nicolas Lancelot (the first dates from 1622 and the second from 1623). Losada Goya (Bibliographie critique de la Littérature espagnole en France au XVIIème, no. 368): "In these delights, Lancelot patiently endeavors to reproduce, either in verse or prose, the numerous poems scattered throughout the Arcadia. He has omitted certain pieces, a list of Spanish poets, a list of famous men, and a long index." Palau, 356312; Lever, Narrative Fiction, p. 131.
