THE MOST FAMOUS SPANISH BOOK BEFORE QUIXOTE - Lot 72
THE MOST FAMOUS SPANISH BOOK BEFORE QUIXOTE [ROJAS (Fernando de)]. CELESTINA. One volume in-16, 352 pp, half-bronze calf, ornate smooth spine, speckled edges. (19th-century binding), a very good copy, despite light rings in fine, jaws rubbed, small burn pp. 106. Second Plantinian edition (although most bibliographies present it as the first). The first in this format (Peeters-Fontainas, 251). Palau, 51163; Brunet I, 1720: a rather attractive and uncommon edition. Foulché-Delbosc, 89: excellent edition, printed in Antwerp by Jan Moretus, Plantin's successor. Salva, I, 1168: This edition is wrongly considered, after Soleinne, to be the first to bear the title Celestina. Ex-libris of the library of Château des Ormes. Early signature on title: Beaujeu.
