This frame is a characteristic example of the influence of Louis Cartier's travels to the Orient on the Maison's productions during the Art Deco period.
Its enameled attachment directly echoes ornaments from Islamic art, with its intertwined foliage close to the motifs found on certain Persian objects that once belonged to Louis Cartier: the Shah's Plumiers (17th century), pieces from his collection that were studied by Charles Jacqueau, one of the House's principal designers, are a clear example.
Other objects, cases and kits made in the 1920s-1930s for the Maison Cartier feature similar ornamentation of stylized scrolls and foliage in dark enamels applied on a gold background.
