CADOL, Edouard (1831-1898), French playwright and novelist. - Lot 127
CADOL, Edouard (1831-1898), French playwright and novelist. Important set of 37 L.A.S. to various colleagues, theater directors, journalists, etc. 1856 to 1896 and a few letters n.d. Approx. 50 pp. in-8 and in-12. Two envelopes preserved. Abundant literary correspondence from playwright Edouard Cadol, a talented vaudevillist and critic, close to George Sand, who became a reader-examiner at the Comédie Française. These letters enable us to retrace part of the author's career, particularly as a playwright: he sends various manuscripts to his correspondents, talks about his successes and failures, defends his work to theaters, newspapers and literary societies, and so on. His works and plays include "Polyerate", "Monsieur mon corps", "Les Inutiles", "Hippolyte Gobert", "Le Spectre de Patrick", "Madame Elise", "Marguerite Chauveley", "La Grande Vie - La Préférée", "Berthe Sigelin", and others. He talks about his inspirations (Dickens), gives advice to a young author, comments on his performances, etc.
